There is
currently a boom in Hedge Funds in Asia.
Hedge Funds assets under management in Asia have raised to about 60 B$
in 2004 from 34B$in 2003. (source EurekaHedge). There are roughly 500
hedge funds in Asia in 2004 versus about 160 5 years ago. This is also
part of a global phenomenon as more than 1000 new hedge funds started
globally in 2004 according to Hedge Fund Research Inc.
Main reasons for this Asian
hedge funds boom are:
- high growth in the region
- still inefficient financial markets that offer opportunities for hedge
funds
- still relatively undeveloped hedge funds industry
